Therapeutic Framework & Therapy Process
Each and every one of us are extraordinarily unique.
We have uniqueness in our biology and family history, childhood development and circumstances, culture, family attachment, social supports, physical environment, learned behaviours, life experiences, status and situation in life, behaviour patterns, emotional and intellectual intelligence, existing coping strategies and response patterns, strengths and resiliency, financial stability, exposure to trauma/loss/stressors, cumulative stress, family status, personality, goals, and education and employment experiences.

I seek to understand what makes you, your situation, your struggles and goals unique, so I can best help you.

Consistent with this, my approach to counselling and psychotherapy aligns with the psychotherapy integration movement. This means using a holistic lens to best understand and frame the uniqueness of your situation and designing therapeutic interventions based on this conceptualization - integrating best-fit key concepts and strategies from one of, or a blend of, the major psychology approaches and evidence-based best practices to best help you.

The therapy process requires our exploration of your unique situation, careful and effective listening by me to help orient my understanding and intervention suggestions, and teamwork between us to collaborate on intervention strategies to best help you. You are responsible for remaining forthcoming in sharing information, thoughts, feelings, successes and struggles and insights throughout our therapy work and for demonstrating meaningful engagement in the process. I am responsible for maintaining my highly valued client-centred focus - keeping you, your needs and your goals of utmost priority, offering you consistent effective listening, ongoing genuine care, compassion and support, ongoing check-ins to help ensure I understand things accurately without assumptions, and I provide dynamic guidance to adjust our approach and strategies based on your experiences, feedback, and any changes in goals you may have.

Homework tasks may be recommended between sessions, such as worksheets to complete, things to notice/attend to, activities or experiments to participate in, or strategies to practice. In these cases, the purpose is to help maximize your insight development, skill development, skill efficacy, and comfort with real-life practical application of strategies. Homework completion is not required, but is highly suggested to expedite your progress. My role is to guide, educate, encourage, motivate and support you as best I can throughout the entire therapy journey.
